Virtual Visits

Virtual Visits

Connecticut Pediatric Otolaryngology, LLC partners with Privia Health who provides a televisit platform for the convenience of our patients.

Before Your Virtual Visit

When your virtual visit appointment is scheduled, you will receive a text or email with appointment confirmation and a link to join. If the appointment is within three hours of being scheduled, you will receive an automatic confirmation email. You can confirm your appointment and begin pre-registration directly from the email.

The appointment link activates on the day of your visit, but you can complete a device check beforehand to ensure your technology is ready. During the device check, you will test your speakers, microphone, and camera. If any issues arise, a troubleshooting guide will appear to help you resolve them.

Technical Requirements

You will need a smartphone or computer with an internet connection and a full battery. The following browsers are supported:

  • iPhone: Safari (v.12 and later)
  • Android phone: Chrome (latest 3 versions) or Samsung Internet (v.12 and later)
  • Mac computer: Chrome (latest 3 versions), Firefox (latest 3 versions), or Safari (v.12 and later)
  • Windows computer: Chrome (latest 3 versions), Firefox (latest 3 versions), or Edge (v.79 and later)

Make sure to install the latest web browser updates before your visit.

Joining Your Virtual Visit

There are four ways to access your virtual visit on the day of your appointment:

  • Email link: Click “Your appointment link” in the confirmation or reminder email. The link will open the visit directly in your browser.
  • Text message: Tap the link in the text message you receive with your appointment information.
  • Patient Portal: Log in to your patient portal account and click “Join telehealth call” from the appointment on your homepage.
  • myPrivia App: Open the app, find your upcoming appointment, and tap “Join visit.”

After clicking your link, you will be prompted to enter your name and select your relationship to the patient (options include: patient, caregiver, family member, friend, another care provider, interpreter, or other). You must consent to the telehealth terms of use before proceeding.

When your browser asks for access to your camera and microphone, select “Allow” or “Allow while visiting the site.”

If you get disconnected during your visit, simply click the original link again to rejoin.

During Your Virtual Visit

Once connected, you will see yourself in a small window and your provider in a larger view. Up to four participants can be in the visit at a time.

The following controls are available during your visit:

  • Mute/Unmute: Turn your microphone on or off
  • Start/Stop Video: Turn your camera on or off
  • Participants: View all participants in the visit
  • Chat: Send text messages (activates when another participant joins)
  • Share Screen: Share a tab, window, or your entire screen
  • Show Captions: Enable closed captions in various languages
  • Reactions: Send emoji reactions or raise your hand
  • Settings: Adjust audio, video, or change your background

To change your speaker, microphone, or camera during the visit, select the arrow next to the corresponding icon and choose from the available devices.

Ending Your Virtual Visit

When your visit is complete, select “Leave” in the bottom right corner, then select “Leave Meeting.”

If your provider ends the visit, you will see a notification that the meeting has been ended by the host. You will have the option to provide feedback on your experience and report any technical issues.

Audio-Only Option

If you do not have a device with a camera or prefer not to use video, audio-only visits are available. Please contact our office to arrange this option.

Copay Information

You may still be charged a copay for your virtual visit. Please contact your insurance company for the latest information about telehealth coverage.
